Join us in celebrating the life and legacy of Charles Faggart, a beloved Jacksonville caterer and food truck owner, known to many as the heart behind 'Chop It Charlie's.' Charles was a culinary artist, whose passion for cooking and creating delectable recipes left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure to taste his creations. Beyond his culinary contributions, Charles fed the homeless and was a cherished friend, recognized for his characteristic joyful personality, always bringing smiles and laughter wherever he went.

As a devoted father, Charles lit up with pride whenever he spoke of his 6-year-old son, Lincoln. He was not just a great cook and chef, but a remarkable person who played an instrumental role in Jacksonville's food scene. His commitment extended beyond his kitchen; he was a staunch supporter of fellow chefs and local food businesses, always ready to share his knowledge, expertise, and a helping hand.

Tragically, Charles Faggart's life was suddenly and inexplicably ended following an incident involving nine correctional officers employed by the Jacksonville Sheriff Office’s. His family, friends, and community mourn his untimely passing and stand together seeking justice and answers surrounding the circumstance of his death.

what happEned to charles?

On April 1, 2025, Charles Faggart was arrested for misdemeanor charges in Jacksonville, Florida. He was taken to the Duval County Jail, and - but he will never make it back home. Charles suffered “catastrophic injuries” at the hands of the police, which left him on a ventilator. Ultimately he passed away. Sheriff T.K. Waters confirmed that nine corrections officers, including eight officers and one sergeant, have been suspended for their roles in the incident. The FBI has also joined the investigation to help ensure transparency and accountability.

The specifics of what occurred behind those walls remain unclear, and that’s part of what makes this so troubling. Despite assurances of a “thorough and comprehensive” investigation from Sheriff Waters, the Faggart family is demanding answers, and so should we as a community.
