Shannon Schott Explains Why Florida Has No Parent–Child Privilege
During a Jacksonville murder trial in which a father testified against his son, News4JAX asked Shannon Schott how that was possible. Shannon, who is not involved in the case, explained that Florida recognizes privileges for spouses, clergy, attorneys, and doctors, but not between parents and children. She added that testifying for the State can be considered in a cooperating witness’s favor when that witness is later sentenced in their own case.
