Shannon Schott on the Juvenile Law Questions in the Tristyn Bailey Case

After a teenager was charged in the death of Tristyn Bailey, News4JAX and Action News Jax asked Shannon Schott, a Florida Bar Board-Certified Specialist in Juvenile Law, to explain how the case could proceed. Shannon is not involved in the case.

Shannon explained that a minor cannot face the death penalty but can face life in prison if charged as an adult, which she expected given the public response. In juvenile court, the focus is rehabilitation, and a person cannot be held past age 21. She also spoke about the trauma that is so often behind violence by children, and asked what the adults around this child had seen.
