One Year Later: Faggart Family Sues JSO for the Truth
One year after the incident in the Duval County jail that led to Charles Faggart’s death, his family is still waiting for answers. On the anniversary, Belkis Plata filed a lawsuit on the family’s behalf against Sheriff T.K. Waters and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office seeking the complete public record, including all video.
Belkis said the family’s records requests, made within days of Charles’s death, were “met with silence,” and that the Sheriff’s Office has violated Florida’s public records law. Family, friends, and community members gathered outside JSO headquarters that evening to mark the anniversary, and Belkis thanked the community for standing with the family.
